I attended an event hosted by Wanderlust called Wellspring about six weeks ago and left inspired to do my part to spread more good in the world. I listened to many presenters talk about what a difference they have made in the lives of others and the importance of spreading love – especially in this age when there are many acts of violence against other beings. As Marianne Williamson encouraged us to do in her talk at Wellspring “we need to love with conviction” rather than only when it’s convenient for us. We all know what it is that we are called to do, and we need to stop making excuses and take action. As humans, we are inherently social, and taking care of one another is how we survive and thrive. In a
way, generosity is a survival instinct. Numerous studies have shown that giving (whether time or money) makes you happier. Mahatma Gandhi once said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” In the spirit of doing good, Firefly is celebrating December as a month of giving. We are asking members of our community to post a photo on social media either volunteering, donating blood, or any other service or donation using #FirefliesGive and tag us @FireflyYogaCommunity on Facebook or @FireflyRetreats on Twitter. Also in the month of December, for each time you share or comment on Firefly's posts on Facebook, we will donate $1 to a charitable cause. The two causes that we have selected for this campaign are NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine). Engage with us to support these great causes!
