One-Day Hiking and Yoga Event
Sunday, June 16, 2019
This one-day event is the first of Firefly's Summer Outdoor Events Series in Colorado's Front Range. This day of hiking, followed by a restorative yoga and meditation workshop, is an opportunity to kick off training and conditioning for our September hiking retreat. The day will include a challenging hike up Bear Peak with packed lunch, followed by a 75-min yin yoga and meditation workshop. The event is from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM.
Meet at NCAR in Boulder to kick off our hike at 8:30am at NCAR Trail trailhead. We will link up with Mesa Trail, then Fern Canyon Trail, which climbs into the woods through a series of switchbacks, then a final steep ascent to the summit of Bear Peak at over 8,000 ft. The full hike is nearly 6 miles and will take 4-5 hours. Please register only if you are in good physical condition to complete this strenuous hike. Packed lunch and snack will be provided. Our yoga workshop is in the beautiful Amana Yoga studio with all props provided.
Charity Mountain Bike Ride
Saturday, July 27, 2019
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of survival of Firefly's Founder, Carrie Lehtonen, we are reviving the WholeHearted Bike Tour, but taking it off-road! When she was 31 years old, Carrie suffered a heart attack while on a 60 mile bike ride in the foothills of Colorado. A lot has changed since then! Carrie became a Holistic Health Practitioner, then a Yoga Teacher, left her 18-year career in Human Resources, and founded two businesses, WholeHearted Health and Firefly Community, to help others find their path to health and happiness. Carrie hosted three WholeHearted Bike Tours on the road, but then took a few years off to focus on starting and growing Firefly Community.
Join us in off-road ride to support the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine. With more than 12,000 physicians and 170,000 members around the world, PCRM's vision is "Creating a healthier world through a new emphasis on plant-based nutrition and scientific research conducted ethically, without using animals." PCRM's efforts are dramatically changing the way doctors treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. By putting prevention over pills, doctors are empowering their patients to take control of their own health.
Our ride will be the Dirty Bismark Loop in Superior, Colorado. This is an easy-intermediate 15.7 mile single track loop that follows the well-known Morgul Bismarck road cycling route - a famous race stage from the Red Zinger / Coors Classic road cycling race in the 1970's and 1980's. Over time, trails along the perimeter of this classic road route have been built, making the Dirty Bismarck MTB trail. The trail is mostly smooth with just a few slightly technical spots. It's just challenging enough to keep advanced riders interested, but rideable by just about everyone.
We will start and end at the Coalton Trailhead in Superior. Meet at 9:30am for a 10:00am start time. There are options for shorter out-and-back routes if you prefer not to complete the full loop. We'll enjoy lunch together after the ride. This is a donation-based event, but please register in advance. Suggested donation is $25-$50, but give whatever works for you.
